Events

Suicide-Prevention Marathon

All EVA, All the Time! The Aza Good Deed of the year involved us trashing his place and keeping his roommates up Very Very Late. Jono and Aza did an eerily perfect rendition of Shingo Mama's "Oha!", everyone got drunk on Children's Sake, and there was watching of Bob Sapp while waiting for the EVA Death & Rebirth (retrieved by Alexis, Cat and Jeremy on a daring expedition through a blizzard, 100 mph winds, up hill both ways). Orange jello was served at the end of the world.

UChi-Con

Satomi Saito came to talk about Moe and Gyaru-ge and showed the opening to an H-game.

Black Rose Marathon

Midway through the year, Helena's interest was piqued by the doings of a sublieutenant, Brian, a name unknown until that point. The enterprising young NCO had sent her an email pleading with her to reverse her ruling about not showing the second season of Revolutionary Girl Utena, presenting irrefutable arguments to the effect that the second season contextualized the third and was also pretty darn good in its own right. Thus Brian claimed the title of Utena fanboy. For her part, Helena*, intrigued, agreed to hold a marathon at her uncharacteristically cat-free apartment*. In due course all were acquainted with the Black Rose, and Brian's postshowing impromptu explanation of the plot of the confusing season was met with a round of applause and calls for encores. Now tested by fire, the distinguished Brian was subsequently appointed Acquisitions Officer and Utena Fanboy the following year.

* Helena was once herself an Utena Fangirl of much potency.

* It was Sushu's Apartment, v.0.8. (-cats, +Chinese roommates). Helena lived in MaxP (the yellow one). Her room has lots of cool anime art of her own mad jousu-ness. And a shelf of heads. And Stephen. Stephen had nothing to do with the heads. Nothing at all.

Anime Screened

ROD OAV

Time Stranger

Travelling backwards through time in a Scooby-Doo van! Moments of Greatness include: driving across war-torn landscape of Tokyo Firebombing to 80's music, a flying time machine in the form of small hut, and CG water sparkles. Oh, and Helena launching herself at Isaac.

Fruits Basket

Midway through the series, Isaac lost the Fruits Basket DVDs that were borrowed from some unknown entity from Kendo. Ritual Seppuku was performed before the audience at the subsequent showing. (The switchblade was then lost in a pocket, only to be rediscovered in the spring) Cat's dvds came to the rescue.

Saishuu Heiki Kanojo

(Saikano; She, the Ultimate Weapon)

The anime ended with Shuuji alone in a post-apocalyptic world, (barren landscape, ash covering everything), and Chise is a speaking consciousness inside his heart (she gave up her life to protect him)

The manga ended with Shuuji inside a spaceship made of Chise, and they're flying away from a devasted earth.

Is it better to end up with your girlfriend inside of you, or better to be inside your girlfriend?

Martian Successor Nadesico

Introduced "Let's Gekigai-in!" and "Let's get to burning!" into officer lingo

Dragon Half

Introdued "Sou-saaa!" into officer lingo

Last Exile

Led to Alexis crossplay, which was agreed to be v. hawt.

Also featured Most Stupid Death on part of Dio Elaclair, spazzy glam space elf extraordinaire

Shoujo Kakumei Utena

Led the the Black Rose Marathon and the introduction of Brian into the officer corps

El Hazard OAV

Cat does a most excellent rendition of Jinei's evil laugh.

Haibane Renmei

Lupin III (TV series season 1)

Officer's Choice

In which each officer gets to show one anime episode of their choice

Helena chose Ebi-chu, leading to much guffawing and/or wretching by club members. Oddly enough, more people seemed to be more disturbed by displays of animal cruelty than vulgar displays of an adult nature.

Isaac showed us some hilariously awful anime about fashion. "Fashion Boy is Cool"

Sushu showed Condor Hero, where the spleen is where power is stored.

Jeremy showed Abenobashi Magical Shopping District
